Meet the Team: Paul Weinstein
Spotlight on Our Tech Trailblazer
This year, SolTrans welcomed a fresh face to the team — and he’s already making waves behind the scenes! Meet Paul Weinstein, our new IT& DevOps Engineer, whose passion for technology and civic engagement is helping keep SolTrans rolling smoothly into the digital age.
Though this is Paul’s first job in public transit, he’s no stranger to tackling complex systems. With a professional background spanning global companies, startups, and boutique tech firms, Paul brings a wealth of experience and a knack for problem-solving to his role.
So, what exactly does an IT & DevOps Engineer do? In Paul’s words, his job falls into two main “buckets.” The first is what most of us imagine when we think of IT: managing laptops, servers, networks, and making sure everyone’s tech is secure and working right. The second is where it gets really interesting, the technology that keeps buses running on time. From real-time arrival data to digital fare systems, Paul helps ensure that all the systems “talk” to each other seamlessly.
“I’m old enough to remember standing at a bus stop not knowing if I just missed my ride,” Paul says. “Now we can track arrivals to the minute, pay digitally, and know exactly when we’ll get there. My job is to make sure that technology keeps working for our riders and staff.”
When asked what he loves most about his work, Paul doesn’t hesitate: “The challenge, making sure everything connects, communicates, and stays in sync.” It’s no small feat when you consider the thousands of datapoints and networks involved in tracking even a single bus!
A true believer in civic engagement, Paul was drawn to SolTrans by both the people and the mission. “I already knew some of the folks here, and I’ve always been motivated by community-focused work,” he shares.“Public transit is one of those things that directly impacts people’s lives every day.”
And as for what he hopes to accomplish? Paul lives by what he calls the “campground rule”: leave things better than you found them. “If the technical infrastructure that supports SolTrans operations is stronger and more efficient when I leave than when I arrived,” he says, “then I’ve done my job.”
We’d say he’s well on his way!
