Press Release: SolTrans Celebrates Completion of Electrification Infrastructure with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Solano County, CA — Solano County Transit (SolTrans) is proud to announce a major milestone in the future of clean transportation. On Friday, May 2, 2025,SolTrans’ Board of Directors—alongside Congressman John Garamendi, Senator Christopher Cabaldon, and project partners Transdev, PG&E, WSP, Patriot Construction, and Solano Transportation Authority (STA)—will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the completion of Solano County’s first-ever Electrification Infrastructure, designed to charge SolTrans’ growing fleet of zero-emission local buses. The celebration will take place from 10:30 a.m. to1:00 p.m. at the SolTrans Operations and Maintenance Facility in Vallejo, CA.
This transformative project represents a bold step forward in SolTrans’ commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being. The new infrastructure is a foundational element in the agency’s plan to convert its entire fleet to 100% zero-emission vehicles, in alignment with California’s Innovative Clean Transit (ICT) regulation.
“SolTrans has already reached the limit of its onsite charging capacity with the five all-electric buses currently in service,” said Beth Kranda, SolTrans Executive Director. “This project is imperative to fully electrify the rest of our local fleet. It lays the groundwork for cleaner air, healthier communities, and a transit system that Solano County can be proud of.”
The journey began in 2020, when the SolTrans Board authorized work with engineering firm WSP to design an advanced depot charging system capable of powering an all-electric fleet. Construction officially broke ground in April 2023 and reached completion in April 2025, with Patriot Construction leading the build and PG&E delivering the energy infrastructure needed to make it a reality.
“PG&E is excited to support SolTrans in their journey toward a zero-emission future. By delivering the energy solutions needed to power this critical infrastructure, we’re helping to build a cleaner, more sustainable transportation system for Solano County and the communities we are privileged to serve,” said Dave Canny, Vice President for PG&E’s North Coast Region.
To further celebrate community connection and place-based pride, the infrastructure also features original artwork by local artist Lorenzo Crockett and his team. The installation highlights the unique identities of Benicia and Vallejo, showcasing local culture, transit history, and neighborhood spirit.
This innovative project would not have been possible without federal and local funding. SolTrans extends special thanks to the Bay Area Air District and the Carl Moyer Program, which provided crucial grant support for the installation of electric chargers and a portion of the supporting infrastructure. These contributions play an instrumental role in making zero-emission transit a reality in Solano County.
Solano County Transit (SolTrans) has been the public transportation provider for south Solano County since July 2011.SolTrans provides local and SolanoExpress fixed routes and complementary paratransit. The agency is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) governed by a six-member Board of Directors, composed of two representatives from the cities of Benicia and Vallejo, Solano County’s representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC),and a representative from the Solano Transportation Authority.
